Chief Minister made several important announcements to strengthen the local self-government
Approval of Rs 5 crores for development works in municipalities, Rs 3 crores for Nagar Panchayats

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has made several important announcements to strengthen local self-government in a programme organized at his residence office here today. Chief Minister Mr. Baghel has announced to sanction Rs 5 crore for infrastructural development in all the municipalities of the state and development works worth Rs 3 crore for Nagar Panchayats. Similarly, an amount of Rs 140 crore has also been announced for development work in 14 municipal corporations of the state. In this way, a total of Rs 579 crore has been announced by the Chief Minister for strengthening the local self-government.
In a bid to fulfill the concept of empowering local self-government, the Chief Minister has announced to double the existing financial powers of all the office bearers of urban bodies. Mr. Baghel also announced to double the honorarium of all the mayors, chairman, president of all municipalities and Nagar Panchayats, vice-presidents and all councilors of the state besides announcing to hike mayor, president and councilors fund by one and half times. This has been done to encourage public representatives of urban bodies to do better development work in their areas. Chief Minister said in his address that it is the result of the hard work and dedication of the people’s representatives of the urban bodies of the state that Chhattisgarh has achieved the title of cleanest state of the country three times in a row.
